Salesforce's $1.6B VA Deal: AI Agents Go Mainstream
💡 Puntos Clave
The VA contract signals that Agentforce is moving from pilot to procurement, validating Salesforce's AI growth story at an attractive valuation.
What Happened: Salesforce Lands $1.6 Billion Federal AI Contract
On Friday, the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Salesforce a three-year contract with a ceiling of $1.6 billion. The deal covers Agentforce AI products, Slack, MuleSoft, Tableau, and Data 360 through Salesforce's government cloud, Missionforce.
The VA will use Agentforce for around-the-clock virtual contact center support, patient triage, benefits verification, and scheduling. The goal is to cut appointment scheduling from an average of 28 days to minutes.
Shares rose more than 4% on Friday following the announcement. However, the contract is structured as one base year with two one-year renewal options. The $1.6 billion is the maximum the VA can spend, not a committed amount. Revenue will be recognized only as services are ordered.
Even at the full ceiling, the annual average is about $500 million, roughly 1% of Salesforce's expected $46 billion in revenue this fiscal year. The signal is more important than the dollars.
This is not the only federal win. In January, the U.S. Army awarded Salesforce a $5.6 billion, 10-year ceiling agreement for Missionforce.
Why It Matters: Agentforce Demand Is Real and Scaling Fast
The VA contract validates that AI agents are moving from pilot projects into real procurement budgets. Federal agencies are not known for speculative technology purchases, so this multiyear agreement signals strong confidence in Agentforce.
Agentforce annual recurring revenue (ARR) reached $1.2 billion in the fiscal first quarter of 2027, up 205% year over year. Combined with Data 360, AI and data products now carry nearly $3.4 billion in ARR, up more than 200% year over year.
Despite this growth, Salesforce stock is down about 40% from its 52-week high, trading at less than 12 times forward adjusted earnings. That's a valuation more typical of a slow-growth value stock than a company with double-digit revenue growth and triple-digit AI product growth.
The deal could also help counter the bear case that AI agents will disrupt Salesforce rather than feed it. A major healthcare system betting its call centers on Agentforce suggests the opposite.
If the VA exercises its first renewal next year, the deal could become a template for other federal agencies, further accelerating Agentforce adoption.

Bobby Insight

Salesforce is a strong buy at current levels given its AI growth trajectory and attractive valuation.
Agentforce ARR doubled in six months to $1.2B, and the VA contract signals mainstream adoption. Yet the stock trades at just 12x earnings, pricing in little of this growth. Risks include execution on renewals and competition, but the risk/reward is favorable.
